Today, I’m going to introduce a fun ice breaker that you can try: the story cubes. It allows participants to establish real communication and share with each other.

The Story Cubes

The objective of this ice breaker, the story cubes, is to create a genuine first contact and even start sharing common points among participants. Afterward, participants are more likely to engage with others.

Preparation for the Story Cubes

Participants: It is recommended to use this ice breaker in groups of up to 10 people to keep it from becoming too lengthy.

Materials

Here’s what you’ll need to prepare for this ice breaker:

  • The online version: Story Dice
  • (Or) Purchase the dice for the workshop

Duration: 3 minutes per participant

Step 1

The facilitator will present the participants with a starting phrase before rolling the dice, such as “this month, I was”… And they will explain that each participant, one after another, must:

  • Roll the dice
  • Create a story that follows the starting phrase by incorporating the results of the rolled dice

The dice are unique and feature objects as shown below:

Step 2

Each participant, one after another, will share the story that corresponds to the rolled dice. They will be given a maximum of 3 minutes to create a short but effective story.

In conclusion, this ice breaker is a lot of fun. It will enable participants to make real connections with one another. Don’t hesitate to try it because it adds a lot of fun, especially at the beginning of a meetup or a training session.
