The product owner blog
The Product Owner also called PO is an important role of a Scrum team. In Scrum, there are three key roles:
- the development team
- the scrum master
- the product owner
Product Owner, backlog manager
In a nutshell, the PO is the functional manager of the product; he will manage the content of the backlog and the prioritization of all requests that compose it.
The PO will have to construct the functional demands of the product on which he works according to their value, incrementally and iteratively. He will be able to regularly remind the team of goals to be reached.
The Product Owner is functional manager
The PO is responsible for the product. Beyond the management of the backlog, he is the ultimate validator of the items (such as user-stories) that go into “Done”.
He can if he accepts this, delegate this role to a tester, to the developers for technical items … However he remains the responsible for any increment validated and added to the product.
Share his vision
It is important that the PO is able to share his vision by using high quality tools such as the Product Vision Board, Customer Journey, personae or even Story Mapping.
Off, if he doesn’t share his vision well, the scrum team and external actors could go in the wrong direction.
